Frequently Asked Questions

    Q. How do I get this to play over the phone?
A. Turn up your PC's speaker volume so it can be overheard over the phone. Be sure your computer's speaker volume is not set on "mute". A volume of 2/3 to 3/4 of maximum works best. Then, play, and be ready to say "sorry, gotta go!"

    Q. Do I store the sound files on my computer and then play them?
A. No, they will download and play automatically.

    Q. Can I repeat a sound more than once?
A. Yes, just click the "play" button on your media player and the sound will repeat. In many cases you will want to do so. For instance, repeat "My ride is here (honking horn)" to tell your caller you've got an impatient driver. "Sorry, gotta go!"

    Q. Should I practice first?
A. We recommend playing through the sounds first. That way you'll have a clear idea of what is about to be played and when during your conversation it works best to play it.

    Q. Why do some of the sounds have times listed after them?
A. We're listing the duration of some sounds that would be continuous sounds in a natural environment. For example, helicopter noise, or "There's static on the line."

    Q. What if I have a suggestion for a new sound?
A. By all means, send it to us at ideas@dataovertheweb.com. Inappropriate or tasteless sounds will NOT be added to the site.

    Q. Can I record my own sound and send it to you?
A. Yes, we will review it and if it is appropriate, will add it to the site. By sending us a sound clip you agree that the sound is not copyrighted or that you are giving us permission to use the sound.

    Q. If I sign up for the email notification will my address be sold?
A. No. It will be used ONLY for the purpose of notifying you of new additions to the site.
